Bolton Wanderers players of the past have taken to Twitter to share messages of support with Stuart Holden, who announced his retirement from football on Thursday.

Holden, who represented Wanderers between 2010 and 2014, was restricted to just 38 appearances for the club due to a series of serious knee injuries which have ultimately put an end to his playing career.

Having welcomed daughter Kennady Rose into the world on Monday, Holden admitted it was time to 'stop fighting' his body and immediately shift focus to his family and ventures outside the physiotherapy room.

Football fans from around the world were quick to share 'thank you' and 'good luck' messages with the 30-year-old, and they were joined by some of his former colleagues who played alongside him at the Reebok Stadium.
