Bolton defender Francesco Pisano has returned to Italy, after joining Serie B side US Avellino on loan for the rest of the season.

Pisano joined Wanderers in August, following his release from Cagliari, and made his debut in a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion the following month.

The 29-year-old went on to make two further appearances, the most recent of which being in a goalless draw at Preston North End on October 31, but has failed to establish himself at Macron Stadium after losing his place to the likes of Rob Holding and, more recently, Josh Vela.

Avellino are currently placed 8th in Serie B, putting them in contention for a play-off place at the end of the campaign, after which Pisano will return to Wanderers ahead of the final year of his contract.
