Jose Manuel Casado has been released by Bolton, after a mutual agreement was reached to cancel his contract.

Casado, who joined Wanderers in August following his release from Spanish side Almeria, was halfway through a 12-month deal at Macron Stadium but has been let go after only nine appearances for Neil Lennon's side.

The 29-year-old made his Trotters debut in a 2-0 defeat at Burnley in October and went on to start in the next eight games, but has been out of the team since being sent off in a 3-2 loss at home to Cardiff City in December.

Posting on his official Twitter page - @JMCasado20 - Casado took the time to thank supporters for their backing during his brief stay in England.

"I am very sad to announce that I am no longer a Bolton Wanderers player," he said.

"I would like to thank you all for the opportunity given and the support from the fans.

"I wish you all the best of luck for the future."
