Out-of-favour Bolton forward Conor Wilkinson has joined League Two strugglers Newport County on an emergency one-month loan deal.

Wilkinson joined Wanderers from Millwall in July 2013 but has struggled to establish himself in the senior squad at Macron Stadium, making a total of seven appearances, and recently returned from a disappointing loan stint at Barnsley, for whom he scored once in 12 outings.

The 20-year-old, who is contracted to the Trotters until the summer of 2018, will link up with the Exiles ahead of Saturday's game against Dagenham & Redbridge and manager Warren Feeney believes Wilkinson has all the attributes to be a success during his time at Rodney Parade.

"Conor has great experience of playing in the league above," Feeney told Newport's official website.

"He comes from a good football background and he has a great size and ability. I want players that will bring high energy and a strong work ethic and Conor will add that to the squad.

"It's good that we now have competition for places, as it keeps all players on their toes."

Wilkinson will remain with Newport up to and including February 20, meaning he will be available for their trip to Exeter City before returning to Wanderers.
