Reports on Thursday evening suggest Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on the £700,000 transfer of Bolton midfielder Mark Davies.

Davies, who has been with Wanderers since joining in a £1million move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2009, is the longest serving senior player at Macron Stadium and has made 184 appearances during his time at the club, scoring 16 goals.

Once the subject of a £4million offer from Swansea City, Davies' stock has fallen since the Trotters were relegated out of the Premier League in 2012 and Wednesday look set to relieve Neil Lennon's side of one of their most influential but highest earning players, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The 27-year-old is remains under contract until the summer of 2017, but Bolton's desperate need for cash, combined with the prospect of losing the playmaker for nothing next year, looks like being the deciding factor in allowing Davies to move on to pastures new.
