Former Bury chairman Terry Robinson has been appointed to a role at Bolton, where he will assist the struggling club with the sale of players.

Wanderers will enter the New Year under a Football League transfer embargo and will report to court on January 18, where HMRC are pursuing a winding-up order for unpaid tax bills.

Speculation has linked the likes of Mark Davies, Josh Vela and Dean Moxey with cut-price moves away from Macron Stadium, as the Trotters look to raise funds that will enable them to stave off the threat of administration, and Robinson appears to have been brought in with the remit of ensuring other players depart quickly.

After leaving his role at Bury, Robinson joined the board of Sheffield United in 2002 and was appointed chairman four years later.

In February 2008, Robinson stepped down from the role in order to take up the position of president at Hungarian side Ferencvaros, but returned to England in June 2011 as an academy director at Stoke City.

Robinson became Director of Football at Leicester City in July 2013, after relinquishing his role with the Potters, but was sacked by the Foxes in December 2014 amid reports the club's board were unhappy with the quality of incoming transfers he had overseen.
