Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Bolton defender Andy Kellett for an undisclosed fee.

Kellett joined Wanderers in 2002 and progressed through the youth system at Macron Stadium, before making his senior debut as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in April 2014.

He joined Plymouth Argyle on a short-term loan deal last October and had looked set to return to Home Park for a second spell, until a transfer deadline day loan move to Manchester United materialised in February.

During his time at Old Trafford, Kellett was part of the squad that won the Barclays U21 Premier League title.

The 21-year-old returned to Bolton at the start of pre-season training, but had been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Neil Lennon and played his final game as the development squad secured the Manchester FA Senior Cup with victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

Kellett, who made a total of four appearances for Wanderers' first-team, has signed a three-year contract at the DW Stadium and becomes the fifth former Trotters player to sign for Latics this summer - following in the footsteps of Craig Davies, Sanmi Odelusi, Kevin McNaughton and Jussi Jaaskelainen.
