Wigan Athletic have taken an interest in former Bolton defender Kevin McNaughton, who is currently on trial at the DW Stadium.
McNaughton, who spent last season on loan with Wanderers, is a free agent following his release from Cardiff City and last week turned out for Blackpool in a pre-season victory at Blyth.
The 32-year-old is working his way back to fitness after suffering a broken leg in March and has also trained with Bolton's development squad this summer, but looks set to complete a switch to one of the club's North West neighbours.
McNaughton played 45 minutes in Wigan's 2-0 win over Southport on Saturday, a game which also saw former Wanderers midfielder Sanmi Odelusi feature at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.
