Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Bolton defender Alex Baptiste, who has penned a three-year contract at the Riverside Stadium.

Baptiste joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Blackpool in July 2013 and made 43 appearances during his debut campaign at the club, but spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers after falling out-of-favour under previous boss Dougie Freedman.

The 29-year-old returned to pre-season training with the Trotters last week but was a notable absentee from the squad that travelled to Austria on Sunday, as completed the formalities of a move to Teesside.

Baptiste, who has committed his future to Boro until the summer of 2018, joins Aitor Karanka's side for a fee believed to be in the region of £75,000 and could line-up against his now-former employers when Bolton travel north on August 15, 2015.
