Eidur Gudjohnsen has closed the door on a return to Bolton, by signing a short-term contract with Chinese side Shijiazhuang Ever Bright.

14 years after leaving Wanderers to sign for Chelsea, Gudjohnsen returned to Macron Stadium last December and scored six goals in 24 appearances as Neil Lennon's side finished 18th in the Championship.

The 36-year-old's impressive form for the Trotters earned him a recall to the Iceland national side, who are strongly tipped to advance into the 2016 UEFA European Championships, but his hopes of appearing in the finals may have taken a hit after a decision on his latest career move was made.

Gudjohnsen has signed a deal which will run through until the climax of the Chinese Super League season, which is currently scheduled for October 31, 2015, and a winter move back to Europe may be his most realistic prospect of making one final outing on the international stage.

During his two spells at Bolton, Gudjohnsen made a combined total of 101 appearances and contributed 33 goals.
