Bolton will make the first move for Norwich City forward Gary Hooper, should the Canaries decide to loan the player out next season.

Wanderers boss Neil Lennon is known to be in the market for a goalscorer, having lost Adam Le Fondre at the end of a highly successful loan spell, and faces the prospect of starting the new campaign with only Zach Clough fit and ready to play, unless he can convince the duo of Eidur Gudjohnsen and Emile Heskey into signing new contracts.

Lennon is keen to bring Le Fondre back to Macron Stadium, but is likely to be priced out of a move by Cardiff City, who will be looking to recoup much of the £3million they paid to Reading last summer.

Reports on Sunday suggest Norwich manager Alex Neil may be willing to provide Hooper with a Championship loan next season, which would alert his Bolton counterpart to a potential reunion - having worked together during their days at Celtic.

Hooper scored 82 goals in 137 appearances during his time in Scotland, before completing a £5million switch to Carrow Road in July 2013. He scored just eight times in 34 outings in his debut top-flight campaign in England, before scoring 12 times in the same number of games as City won promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Norwich confirmed Luciano Becchio will depart the club this summer, after mutually agreeing to cancel his contract, but, with Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Kyle Lafferty returning at the end of respective loans at Saint-Etienne and Rizespor, Hooper may be sacrificed as Neil looks to free up funds that would allow him to bolster his squad.
