May 26, 2015 - Preston Face Competition for Beckford Signature

Unfairly treated in the eyes of some, yet branded a waste of time and money by others. It's fair to say Jermaine Beckford divided opinion during his time at Bolton and he will leave the club when his contract comes to an end next month.

After joining Preston North End on loan last November, Beckford was the hero as a hat-trick of goals helped the Lilywhites to a 4-0 victory over Swindon Town and ensured they will be playing Championship football next season.

Naturally, attention immediately turned to the former Leeds United forward and the next step in his career. The 31-year-old was quizzed on whether he intends to remain at Deepdale on a permanent basis, although he refused to give any indication - with Wigan Athletic and a return to Elland Road also said to be in the offing.

Wage Increase for Gudjohnsen, Drop for Mills

After several years in the footballing wilderness, Eidur Gudjohnsen returned to Bolton last November and contributed a healthy return of six goals in 24 appearances as Neil Lennon's side ended the campaign in 18th position.

His short-term contract comes to an end on June 30 and talks over a new deal have progressed, although speculation arose on Bank Holiday Monday that negotiations have hit a snag - with Gudjohnsen reportedly requesting a pay rise in order to remain at Macron Stadium. (Twitter - Alan Nixon)

One man who is said to be taking a dip in wages is Matt Mills, who, according to reports, could be announced as a Nottingham Forest player as early as today, having agreed terms on a two-year deal at the City Ground. (Nottingham Post)

Finally, we end with news of a player being linked with a summer move to Wanderers. Conor Hourihane, a midfielder voted as Fans' Player of the Year by Barnsley this season, is said to have been identified as a long-term replacement for Lee Chung-Yong - although we understand the Trotters have no interest in the 24-year-old.
