Wigan Athletic are reportedly eyeing up a surprise move for out-of-contract Bolton goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

Lonergan, who joined Wanderers from Leeds United for a fee of around £200,000 in July 2012, looks set to leave Macron Stadium at the end of June, with manager Neil Lennon making it abundantly clear that he would like to begin the new campaign with Adam Bogdan between the sticks.

The 31-year-old, who lists Preston North End and Blackpool amongst his former clubs, may be offered the opportunity to remain in his native North West but would have to drop into League One in order to do so.

Latics boss Gary Caldwell is said to be keen on loaning veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson out next season, leaving Lee Nicholls as the club's only senior goalkeeper following news that Ali Al Habsi will leave the DW Stadium upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.

Lonergan has made a total of 62 appearances during his time at Bolton, but failed to regain his place after leaving the field with a head injury during Wanderers' 4-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest on February 21.
