Blackpool boss Lee Clark has stated his desire to extend Niall Maher's loan deal at Bloomfield Road, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Maher has spent the last month on loan with the Seasiders from Bolton, but will return to Wanderers on Monday after his one-month stay with the Championship's bottom club expired over the weekend.

The 19-year-old made his first senior start in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers, taking his tally of games up to three, and Clark admits he would like to take a more in-depth look at the defender before looking into a permanent transfer in the summer.

"I think he showed his quality and we believe he can be a good player," Clark told the Blackpool Gazette.

"We are in conversation with Bolton at this moment in time to make that until the end of the season.

"I think there's an opportunity coming up for him to start some games.

"He has time on his contract left at Bolton but he's a player that we would like to try and keep.

"That dialogue will have to come with Bolton first and that will happen in the next few weeks."
