Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of former Bolton midfielder Chris Eagles, two months after his release from Blackpool.

After three years with Wanderers, Eagles' contract expired at the end of last season and he linked up with the Seasiders on a short-term deal in November.

The 29-year-old made seven appearances for Blackpool, including one against Bolton, and scored his only goal for the club in a 2-2 draw at Charlton in December.

Now, Eagles, who has penned a contract that will keep him at The Valley until the end of the season, says he had looked set to join the Addicks last year after falling out-of-favour at Bolton, only to have the move blocked at the last minute.

"We touched base (with Charlton) last season, but Bolton wouldn't let me come," Eagles told Charlton's official website.

"I came down Monday, trained, had a fitness test and everything was alright. Then on Wednesday night I agreed to it. I just wanted to get it done.

"I've had a great feeling about being here, it's a massive club.

"I'm over the moon to be here and as soon as I knew they wanted to sign me it didn't matter what they offered me I just wanted to be here."

Eagles has been handed the number nine shirt at Charlton and could make his debut when they face Wigan Athletic on Friday evening.
