Bolton have clarified the contract status of Josh Vela, revealing his existing deal is set to expire in June 2017.

Reports on Friday suggested Vela, who signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Wanderers in February 2012, had yet to open talks over a new contract and would be able to walk away on a free transfer at the end of the season.

However, Daniel Houlker, the man in charge of media at Macron Stadium, issued an update to supporters, confirming Vela still has two years remaining on his contract.

Vela had looked set to depart the club, after falling out of favour under previous boss Dougie Freedman, but he has since become a regular part of the first-team squad since Neil Lennon's arrival in October.

Since making his senior debut against Swansea City in April 2012, Vela has gone on to make 30 appearances for Wanderers.
