Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Jay Spearing, who moves to Ewood Park on a loan deal which will run through until the end of the season.

Spearing recently surpassed 100 appearances in Bolton colours - his current total standing at 108 - but he has fallen out of favour since Neil Lennon succeeded Dougie Freedman as manager last October.

The 26-year-old hasn't started a game since being substituted at half-time in Wanderers' 2-1 defeat at Norwich City on October 31 and he has featured in just seven of the club's 14 games since.

Speaking about his move across Lancashire, Spearing admitted he was disappointed not to be playing more often at Bolton and hopes to do that with their near neighbours.

"I had a few offers from elsewhere," Spearing told Blackburn's official website. "But for me personally, this was the right move.

"I spoke to the manager (Neil Lennon) and I wasn't going to fit into the system he wanted to play.

"I obviously want to play, so we both agreed that it was best for me to come here and hopefully get some games.

"It's been difficult recently, but that's part and parcel of the game. That's sometimes what happens when a new manager comes into a club - they have different ideas and ways of playing and that's just something you have to get on with.

"When I first went to Bolton, I was playing week-in week-out and you get used to it.

"I worked hard to get that back, but for one reason or another that wasn't happening, so it was a mutual decision.

"So it had come to the point where it was time for me to move on and get some time out on the pitch.

"Now I've got to impress a new manager and prove that I should be on the field."

Spearing, who was handed the Bolton captaincy at the start of the season, goes straight into contention for Rovers' home game against Fulham on Saturday. He will wear the number 25 shirt during his time at the club, where he will link up with a fellow Wanderers loanee - Alex Baptiste.
