Bury have completed the signing of Joe Riley on a free transfer from Bolton, in a deal that includes a sell-on clause in his Shakers contract.
Riley, who made his Wanderers debut in a League Cup tie against Macclesfield Town in August 2011, made a total of nine appearances for the club, but struggled to establish himself at Macron Stadium due to a number of long-term injuries.
The 23-year-old made 28 appearances during a loan spell at Oxford United earlier this season and, with his Bolton contract set to expire at the end of the season, Shakers boss David Flitcroft has opted to complete the signing of the promising young full-back.
"Joe Riley, who we have been tracking for some time, is another fantastic addition to the group," Flitcroft told Bury's official website.
"He represents the type of player we are looking to recruit for short, medium and long term success.
"He loves to drive forward from full back and has a controlled aggression about his work.
"He is both athletic and dynamic and will offer us both great quality and energy in the wide areas of the pitch."
Riley has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at the JD Stadium and could make his debut when Bury play host to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
