Keith Andrews' wish of being rescued from a spell at Watford appears to have been granted, with MK Dons poised to take him on loan until the end of the season.

On Sunday, the Republic of Ireland international revealed he had been placed on gardening leave by the Hornets - for whom he last played a competitive game on November 22, 2014.

With a return to Bolton out of the question, after they refused to terminate his deal at Vicarage Road, the only options available to him were to sit on the sidelines and see out his contract, or try to negotiate a move elsewhere for the final four months of the campaign.

In an interview with BBC Three Counties Radio, MK Dons boss Karl Robinson revealed discussions have taken place between himself, Wanderers and Watford, and the process of the 34-year-old returning to the club he represented between 2006 and 2008 are approaching a positive conclusion.

"We've spoken to Watford and Bolton and unofficially agreed terms with the clubs and Keith," Robinson said.

"Keith can't train. He's not our player. But he's in Milton Keynes."

Andrews joined Bolton on a free transfer from West Bromwich Albion in June 2012. Having made 29 appearances for the Trotters, he spent last season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion before linking up with Watford last summer.

His contract at Macron Stadium expires at the end of June, after which he will become a free agent.
