As Neil Lennon prepares to negotiate his first transfer window as Bolton manager, his sights are reportedly set on the trio of Kris Commons, Nick Powell and Luke Garbutt.

Commons, who has previously worked under Lennon at Celtic, is out of contract at the end of the season and is free to discuss terms over a pre-contract with clubs outside Scotland from this coming Thursday, but Lennon is hoping to persuade the Scottish Premiership champions into completing a January transfer.

The 31-year-old has scored six goals in 23 appearances for the Bhoys this season, but has had to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench at Celtic Park in recent weeks, casting doubts over his long-term future at the club.

Powell was heavily linked with a move to Wanderers over the summer, but the Manchester United forward opted to complete a loan move to Leicester City instead.

After netting 12 goals during a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic last season, his time at the King Power Stadium has treatened to put a halt on a promising young career - after making just three substitute appearances for the Foxes, accumulating to a total of just 40 minutes of first-team football.

The 20-year-old's lack of game time has been a subject of debate at Old Trafford, with United's coaching team prepared to terminate Powell's deal in order to secure regular football in the Championship.

Garbutt, another player said to be on Lennon's radar, made his first Premier League start on Sunday, as Everton were beaten 3-2 at Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old, who operates primarily as a left-back, has represented England at every level from under-16 to under-21 and has enjoyed successful loan spells as Cheltenham Town and Colchester United in previous seasons.

A former Leeds United trainee, Garbutt moved to Goodison Park in 2009 after a tribunal stated the Toffees must pay an initial £600,000. To date, he has made six appearances for the club.
