Ricardo Gardner will return to Macron Stadium next year, after his place in Kevin Davies' testimonial match was confirmed.

Gardner, who played for Bolton between 1998 and 2012, becomes the latest former player to sign up for the event, which will take place on either July 31 or August 1, 2015 - potentially as a pre-cursor to a pre-season friendly against a big European club.

The 36-year-old, who scored 25 goals in 410 appearances for Wanderers, has been without a club since his departure two-and-a-half years ago and looks set to fade quietly into retirement - after unsuccessful trials at both West Ham United and Barnsley last year.

Joining Gardner will be local comedian Paddy McGuinness, who adds to a list of celebrities that already includes Vernon Kay and Danny Jones.
