Bolton boss Neil Lennon has confirmed Emile Heskey is training at the club, with a view to potentially signing a contract at Macron Stadium.
Reports emerged on Tuesday that the 62-time England international was at Wanderers' Euxton training base, undergoing a trial not to dissimilar to the situation Eidur Gudjohnsen found himself in last month.
Gudjohnsen took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bury, before featuring in the development squad's 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough on Monday - a scenario Lennon hopes to repeat with Heskey over the coming fortnight.
"He's been training with another club so he's in decent shape but he does need games," Lennon told The Bolton News. "Whether we can give them to him is another matter.
"It's the same situation as it was with Eidur. We'll take him for 10 days to two weeks, have a look at him over that period, and see what he has still got to give us.
"I've known him for a long, long time and have tried to sign him on a couple of occasions, which seems to be the norm for me these days.
"But he's still got lots of good attributes and we're basically having a look."
Bolton's second string don't play again until December 12, when they face Wigan Athletic in the U21 Premier League Cup, before they head down to Arsenal for a league fixture at Boreham Wood three days later.
