Bolton boss Neil Lennon has spoken favourably about the talents of Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has donned a Wanderers shirt for the first time in 14 years.

Gudjohnsen, who has been training with the Trotters for the past fortnight, stepped out for a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bury on Tuesday and produced a Man of the Match performance in a 3-1 victory at the club's Euxton training base.

A brace from Oscar Threlkeld, coupled with a third from Robert Hall, sealed the win for Bolton, but, speaking after the game, Lennon admitted he was delighted with the progress shown by Gudjohnsen and is now wary of rival bidders making moves for the 36-year-old.

"It wouldn't surprise me," Lennon told The Bolton News. "I just think that the fact he wants to still keep playing on is impressive.

"He has had a break and come back looking very fresh. He's integrated really well.

"All that is left to do is assess where he is up to - but how do you assess Eidur Gudjohnsen? You know what I mean, we'll have a good look at him.

"We need to build it up towards 90 minutes. I needed to see him in a different environment, 11 versus 11. Until you do that, you've no real idea how he'll fit in.

"But, put it this way, he's done absolutely everything we've asked of him so far. We just needed to see him play football.

"He's certainly got the talent - that isn't in question - it's just the physical capacity and we haven't made that decision yet.

"What I will say is that everything he's been asked to do, he's done it comfortably."
