Neil Lennon has criticised Jurgen Klinsmann of showing a 'lack of respect', after the USA boss fielded emergency call-up Tim Ream for just three minutes.

Left out of the initial squad for their 2-1 defeat to Colombia at Fulham's Craven Cottage, Ream was drafted in as a late replacement for the injured John Brooks just 24 hours before they faced Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium, in Dublin.

Lennon was unhappy with the late call and his mood didn't improve, after Ream was introduced as an 87th minute substitute - leaving the Wanderers boss demanding answers, after his player missed out on two days of preparation for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Blackpool.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Lennon said: "I am not happy at all. Thankfully he's back and fine now - it must have been a really exhausting minute of football with the team 4-1 down.

"I want an explanation. They had two games - they should have called him in after that initial game and yet they call him in on the night before the game, so he has to get flight on Tuesday morning to Dublin and then play one minute of an international.

"People wonder why footballers don't want to play for their country any more? I am not saying that is the case with Tim, but when you see them being treated like that it makes me very angry.

"There is a complete lack of respect for the player and a lack of respect for our club. I am still waiting on an explanation from someone. I have contacted the American FA and made my feelings pretty clear.

"I know they sent some players back and that a centre-half got injured on Monday. That isn't a problem, but then to give him one minute? Did they do it just to give him a cap?

"We send players away to enjoy playing for their country. But when they are treated like that it is very upsetting for me."

Ream retained his place in the Wanderers side for Saturday's game at Bloomfield Road, where he completed 90 minutes as Lennon's side extended their unbeaten run to three games.
