Medo Kamara won his 17th international cap on Friday, playing 90 minutes in Sierra Leone's 5-1 defeat to Ivory Coast.

Due to the Ebola outbreak in their own country, Sierra Leone opted to play the game in the Ivorian city of Abidjan - essentially making the game an away fixture for the Leone stars.

Their cause wasn't helped when, with seven minutes played, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure opened the scoring by scrambling the ball home from a corner to give Ivory Coast the lead.

The Elephants looked to build on their early lead, but couldn't find a way past Solomon Morris in the Sierra Leone goal, with former Arsenal forward Gervinho one of a few to be denied after he was put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Despite being second-best for much of the opening 20 minutes, Sierra Leone pulled level on 24 as Bangura Moustapha raced clean on goal before slotting past a helpless Guelassiognon Sylvain Gbohouo.

Sierra Leone were much the better side in the latter stages of the first period, but failed to turn their dominance into goals. They were punished for their lacklustre finishing within four minutes of the restart, as Salomon Kalou ended a move involving Yaya Toure and Max Gradel by firing past Morris to put Ivory Coast in front for a second time.

Three minutes later, the Elephants were celebrating a third goal as Gradel fired home from a Gervinho cross, before the provider got himself on the scoresheet with a stunning solo effort which started on the right-wing.

Kalou completed the scoring 19 minutes from time, by netting for the second time, to complete a 5-1 victory for Ivory Coast that brings an end to Sierra Leone's hopes of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

They end their qualifying campaign with a tie against Congo DR on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 GMT.
