The Football League have confirmed 'Vanishing Spray' will be used in all their competitions from January 1, 2015.

The spray, which has been used in South America for years but came to prominence at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has been a feature of the Premier League this season, as well as being trialled by The Football League in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

After results of the trial were deemed to be successful, the spray will be introduced to the Championship, League One and League Two from the start of the next calendar year.

A statement on The Football League's official website read: "The Football League is to introduce the use of 'Vanishing Spray' by referees into its competitions from January 1, 2015 following a successful trial in the early rounds of this season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"Having received positive feedback from clubs, referees and supporters, the League has instructed the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) to begin using the product in all matches played in the Sky Bet Football League, Capital One Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy from the mid-point of the current campaign."
