Conor Wilkinson scored his first Football League goal on Saturday, as he helped Oldham Athletic to a 2-1 victory over Walsall.

Wilkinson, who joined Bolton from Millwall in May 2013, has spent the last month on loan at Oldham and is set to return to Macron Stadium on Monday, following the expiry of his short-term deal.

The 19-year-old scored once during a four-game loan spell at Chester FC last season, but marked his final appearance at Boundary Park with his first goal in league football - cancelling out Jordan Cook's 10th minute opener to bring the Latics level at the break.

Lee Johnson's side appear to be genuine promotion candidates from League One this season and they completed the turnaround on 75 minutes, when Mike Jones scored past Richard O'Donnell in the Walsall goal - just moments after Wilkinson had left the field to a standing ovation.

Despite the best attempts of the Oldham boss, Wilkinson will return to Bolton next week, where he will be assessed by a new manager before any decision on his immediate future is made.
