A poll of nearly 2,000 Bolton supporters indicates Wanderers fans are clamouring for Malky Mackay to succeed Dougie Freedman as the club's new manager.

Freedman was sacked last Friday, after overseeing a run which saw the Trotters pick up just five points from their opening 10 league games of the new season.

Mackay was immediately identified as one of the favourites to replace his fellow Scot, while Neil Lennon, Steve Clarke, Chris Hughton and Phil Brown also topped the list with many bookmakers.

On Wednesday, we asked Bolton supporters who they would like to see in charge of their club - with more than a quarter backing Mackay. Lennon, Clarke, Brown and Hughton were next in line, in a vote which also included former Wanderers favourites such as Jimmy Phillips, Kevin Davies, Fernando Hierro and Stelios Giannakopoulos.
