Southend United boss Phil Brown has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant managerial post at Bolton.

Wanderers are searching for a fifth manager in just seven years, following their decision to sack Dougie Freedman last Friday, and Brown is currently listed as the odds on favourite with a number of bookmakers.

The 55-year-old played for the Trotters between 1988 and 1994, before enjoying spells as first-team coach, assistant manager and caretaker management after retiring from the game in 1996.

Nine years since his departure from the club, Brown has been linked with a return to Macron Stadium but he insists he is happy working for his current club and wants to finish the rebuilding job he has started at Roots Hall.

"There is no truth in any Bolton rumours and I think they've just started because I was there for 15 years as a player, coach and manager," Brown told Echo.

"People keep asking me the question about whether or not I'm going there but it's just speculation as far as I'm concerned.

"I've heard nothing at all and I've got a job to do at Southend United which I still very much want to finish."
