Bolton return to Championship action on Saturday, as they play host to Derby County at Macron Stadium.

Wanderers were eliminated from the League Cup on Wednesday night, as they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, so a number of players will be assessed ahead of the game to make sure they have recovered sufficiently to play.

Kevin McNaughton has recovered from injury and illness, which has forced him to miss more than a month of football, although he is being given time to regain the weight that he lost as a result of the virus. If deemed fit, he could return at right-back but Chris Herd will be on standby to take his place after impressing on his debut during the week.

Mark Davies missed the trip to the capital through illness and could miss out once again, but Owen Garvan is back in the squad after being cup tied for the game against the Blues.

Joe Mason looks set to start, with Craig Davies or Jermaine Beckford likely to drop to the bench, while the likes of Jay Spearing and Lee Chung-Yong may also be handed roles from the off.

Tim Ream may return after being rested at Stamford Bridge, with any one of Matt Mills, Dorian Dervite or Dean Moxey at risk of being omitted.

Andy Lonergan will continue in goal, with Paddy Kenny acting as backup, with Adam Bogdan still unavailable because of a fractured finger. As well as Bogdan, Bolton will be without David Wheater (back), Liam Trotter (hamstring), Marc Tierney (broken leg) and Sanmi Odelusi (knee).

Derby boss Steve McClaren made six changes for the midweek cup victory over Reading, with former Wanderers loan target Jordon Ibe set to start at Macron Stadium.

The on-loan Liverpool forward is one of the hottest prospects in English football at present and may have a point to prove to the home supporters, of whom some reacted negatively when he was linked with a move to the Trotters.

Ryan Shotton could continue in defence, while Lee Grant and Chris Martin look set to earn recalls.

Jake Buxton is doubtful because of a hip injury and there will be no place for Jeff Hendrick, who continues to miss out because of a dislocated shoulder.
