Bolton have completed the signing of free agent Paddy Kenny on a three-month contract, where he will serve as backup to Andy Lonergan.

Kenny's contract at Leeds United was cancelled last month and Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman has moved to bring the 36-year-old to Macron Stadium, after receiving the news that Adam Bogdan will be missing for up to two months with a fractured finger.

The former Sheffield United and Bury goalkeeper is a veteran of more than 600 career appearances, 564 of which have come in league competition, and he will enter the Bolton squad for Saturday's trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Kenny will wear the number 13 shirt during his time at the club and his deal will be reviewed at the end of the year.

Last season, a knee injury to Bogdan prompted Freedman into signing Arran Lee-Barrett to a contract. The former Ipswich Town goalkeeper was a regular starter for the development squad, but failed to make a single first-team appearance before being released at the end of the campaign.

Kenny is expected to play a similar role this season, although speculation over the long-term future of Bogdan, who is out of contract next summer, could be a key factor in whether the former Republic of Ireland international stays on beyond his current spell.
