Bolton forward Conor Wilkinson has joined League One side Oldham Athletic on a one-month loan deal.

Wilkinson joined Wanderers from Millwall last summer and made his professional debut in the 3-2 extra-time victory over Bury in the first round of this season's League Cup.

The 19-year-old has made two senior appearances during his time at Macron Stadium, failing to score, but is a regular for the development squad and was on the scoresheet in a 4-2 victory over the Latics in a Manchester FA Senior Cup tie on Tuesday.

Wilkinson, who had a spell on loan at Chester FC last season, has represented the Republic of Ireland at under 17, 19 and 21 levels and Oldham boss Lee Johnson believes the youngster will provide his squad with a much needed boost ahead of a busy month of fixtures.

"He is a player we have tracked for a while now," Johnson told Oldham's official website. "We watched him progress through the ranks at Bolton and we look forward to bringing him into the squad.

"He played against us the other day and looked good so it will be interesting to see if he can fulfill his full potential with a League One side.

"He is physically strong and a good finisher. He will complement all that we have got at the moment and that can only help the squad.

"We want to thank Bolton for lending us the player and we are coming up to a period of games where we need all the bodies we can get."

Wilkinson will wear the number 14 shirt during his time at Boundary Park and could make his debut on Saturday, when Oldham play host to Gillingham.
