Greg Halford's proposed loan move to Bolton has fallen through, after he picked up an injury in training at Nottingham Forest.

Wanderers' interest in Halford became public knowledge on the final day of the summer transfer window, but a deal failed to reach fruition after Jermaine Beckford's reported switch to Fulham failed to materialise.

Despite missing out on the 29-year-old, Trotters boss Dougie Freedman renewed his interest in the versatile utility man on Wednesday and looked set to complete a three-month emergency loan deal on Thursday - only to hear back from Forest that he has suffered an injury in training.

Halford was expected to debut against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, with Kevin McNaughton continuing to struggle with a hamstring injury, but Freedman will now have to make a straight choice between Oscar Threlkeld and former Owls defender Hayden White.
