Former Bolton defender Zat Knight has trained with Colorado Rapids for the first time, ahead of an impending move to MLS.

Knight is a free agent, after leaving Wanderers at the end of June, and news broke last Thursday that the two-time England international was on the verge of a switch to the United States.

The 34-year-old, who captained the Trotters in his final season at the Reebok Stadium, is awaiting approval of the necessary paperwork before officially completing a move, but trained with his new teammates for the first time on Monday and has set his sights on helping Rapids into the end of season play-offs.

"For the back end of the season, my personal goal is just to try and play as many games as possible and leave the team in a better position than they are now," Knight told the Rapids' official website.

"It would be nice to get into a play-off position. I'm trying to take one step at a time first.

"I heard a lot about MLS. I've got a few friends that are in the league and I've played with a few boys in England that are from America.

"They say it's a lot different, travel wise, and you're always playing, playing, playing.

"It's a new adventure for myself - I've never played abroad so I'm looking forward to a different style of football.

"It (training) was good. It was different. I know it was a bit light because they just had a game on the weekend. But it was good for me.

"I haven't trained with players for a while so it was good to get back into the mix of things. Hopefully as the training sessions build up I get a bit sharper myself."
