Bolton have completed the signing of Owen Garvan on a three-month emergency loan deal from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman set his sights on the 26-year-old during the final week of the transfer window, but ultimately missed out on bringing the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international to Macron Stadium.

Concerns over the long-term fitness of Mark Davies, Liam Trotter, Josh Vela and Andy Kellett had prompted Freedman into enquiring about Garvan's availability and, with first-team opportunities at Selhurst Park proving tough to come by, Eagles boss Ian Holloway has granted permission for the player to link up with the Trotters.

Garvan was a regular part of the Palace side that won promotion to the Premier League in 2013, scoring four goals in 32 appearances, but hasn't featured in the top-flight since August 2013 and spent the final two months of last season on loan at Millwall.

A successful loan spell with Bolton could tempt Freedman into offering Garvan a permanent deal at the club, although he did recently turn down the offer of a short-term contract - prior to completing a loan move on Wednesday.

Garvan will wear the number 19 shirt during his time with Wanderers, which was previously worn by Marvin Sordell. He is eligible to face Sheffield Wednesday this coming weekend.
