Bolton's attempts to boost their strike force on transfer deadline day took a major blow, with top target Nick Powell signing for Leicester City on a season-long loan.

Wanderers had managed to keep their interest in the 20-year-old quiet all summer, knowing that they were likely to land the Manchester United forward in the event that Premier League interest failed to materialise.

Powell had looked set to complete a loan switch to Macron Stadium, but the Foxes made a late move - sealing a deal in the early hours of the morning, after being granted a transfer extension by the Premier League.

The former Crewe Alexandra forward spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic. He scored 12 goals in 41 appearances for the Latics, netting in both Championship games against Wanderers.

His move to the King Power Stadium is subject to Premier League approval, but he is likely to be in contention for Leicester's trip to Stoke City on September 13.
