Freedman Casts Doubt Over Ibe & Clayton Deals

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman admits his chances of bringing Jordon Ibe and Max Clayton to the club are beginning to drift away.

Ibe has been one of this summer's main targets for the Wanderers boss, who has remained patient in his pursuit of the 18-year-old.

Clayton, meanwhile, has spent this week on trial with the Trotters, who would be the subject of a compensation payment or tribunal after leaving Crewe Alexandra at the end of last season.

After seeing a deal for Ibe put on hold due to a number of injuries at Anfield, Derby County have since entered the race to sign him and look set to beat Wanderers to his signature. When quizzed about Clayton's situation, Freedman said he is interested in discussing a transfer but is unlikely to meet Crewe's valuation of the 20-year-old - who has also hinted at a potential move abroad.

"There are a few other clubs interested in Jordon now," Freedman said. "It seems like we'll probably get pipped at the post.

"We've tried to get the loan done going back to last season. We've made another enquiry.

"Max is training with us; we like him. We're one of a few clubs far away from Crewe's valuation.

"Max has spoken about going abroad. I'm gutted about that because we really want to work with him."
