Dougie Freedman has confirmed Bolton have completed the £10,000 signing of Kaiyne Woolery from non-league side Tamworth.

Woolery recently spent a month on trial at Burnley, who were interested in taking the 19-year-old to Turf Moor on a permanent basis, but Wanderers stole a march in their rivals and have managed to bring the player to Macron Stadium.

The former Maidstone United man will initially link up with the Trotters' development squad, where he will compete with the likes of Conor Wilkinson, Zach Clough, Tom Youngs and Georg Iliev for a place in Freedman's first-team plans.

Speaking to, Freedman said: "He's really a development player and I've personally not had a lot to do with it.

"I've got to give a lot of credit to the Under-21s manager for bringing him in.

"We first identified him at Maidstone when they got promotion. He played 30-odd games so we've been looking at him for a while.

"Like every young player, the potential he's got is only potential.

"He's mobile and he's got electric pace but he needs to work on his understanding and he needs to work on his physique, which will come over time.

"But he strikes me as a young guy who wants to learn.

"He's from Kent so to move up to the north west and live in digs, his character's certainly there.

"We have paid Tamworth £10,000. It's a no-brainer to try and do it. We didn't have one like him in the academy so we brought him in.

"We're trying to get more players through the academy and more players into the national sides, under 15, 16, 17s. I want more players doing that."
