Bolton have terminated the contract of midfielder Andy Robinson, just eight weeks after he joined the club on a free transfer from Southampton.

Robinson spent the final few weeks of last season on loan at the Reebok Stadium and made the move permanent in the summer, despite failing to play a first-team game during his brief spell at the club.

The 21-year-old had been a notable absentee from Wanderers' pre-season friendlies over the last fortnight and when quizzed over the player's whereabouts, Dougie Freedman said the highly-rated youngster had been released from his contract.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Freedman said: "We have agreed to terminate Andy's contract and he has returned south.

"He was homesick so it was the right thing for him."
