Alex Baptiste says playing out of position on a consistent basis was a major reason why his time at Bolton was a disappointment.

Baptiste joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Blackpool last summer, signing a three-year contract with the Trotters. He made 43 appearances in his debut campaign at the Reebok Stadium, scoring four goals, but a series of costly errors in the latter stages of the season saw him dropped from the side.

Brought in because of his versatility in defence, the 28-year-old occupied both full-back roles for lengthy periods last season but says he was disappointed he couldn't produce his best form on a consistent basis - and hopes to do so during a season-long loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.

"I'm an honest lad and for one reason or another it just didn’t work," Baptiste told Blackburn's official club website.

"It went so well at Blackpool and everywhere else in my career I've done okay but for some reason it just didn't work.

"Playing out of position a lot - I'm not a left back, I'll openly admit that - but like I said, this is a fresh start and I'm really looking forward to it."
