Kevin McNaughton is expected to join Bolton on a season-long loan over the weekend, after Wanderers reached an agreement with Cardiff City.
McNaughton spent three months on loan at the Reebok Stadium last season, scoring once in 13 games, but returned to the Welsh over the Christmas period after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival as Bluebirds manager.
The 31-year-old signed a new 12-month contract in March, but will instead spend that time on loan at the Macron Stadium - filling the right-back role made available by Alex Baptiste's loan move to Blackburn Rovers.
The move will be subject to international clearance, due to Cardiff's registration with the Welsh FA, but McNaughton is expected to join the Wanderers squad on their tour of Scandinavia early next week.
