Lee Chung-Yong won his 57th international cap on Sunday evening, playing 64 minutes in South Korea's 4-2 defeat to Algeria at the World Cup.

Chung-Yong made his sixth World Cup appearance, in Porto Alegre - two more than any other Bolton player past or present. He is also the only man to have represented his country, whilst under contract with Wanderers, at two separate World Cup tournaments.

After drawing with Russia in their opening group game, South Korea went into their tie with Algeria as firm favourites to win the game and take a huge stride towards the knockout stages of the competition.

They started poorly, however, and were three goals down at the break. Islam Slimani put Algeria ahead in the 26th minute, before Rafik Halliche doubled the advantage just over 60 seconds later by powering home a header from a corner.

Abdelmoumene Djabou made it 3-0, eight minutes before the interval, but South Korea came out strong after the restart and pulled one back in the 50th minute as Son Heung-Min fired through the legs of Rais M'Bolhi.

History was made in the 62nd minute, as Yacine Brahimi played a neat one-two before slotting home Algeria's fourth - marking the first time an African country had netted more than three goals in a World Cup finals fixture.

Koo Ja-Cheol tapped home a consolation for South Korea with 18 minutes to go, but Algeria held on to claim a much deserved victory that gives them real hope of joining Belgium in the last 16 of the tournament.

Group H's final games take place at 5pm on Thursday, with South Korea playing Belgium in Sao Paulo and Algeria facing Russia in Curitiba.
