Tim Ream's hopes of making the World Cup finals are over, after he was left out of the United States' preliminary 30-man squad.

USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann will need to whittle that down to a final 23-man squad in the coming weeks, but Ream, who won a number of Player of the Season awards at Bolton, will not be one of those to travel to Brazil this summer.

The 26-year-old hasn't represented his country for over two-and-a-half years, so his omission comes as no major surprise, although he was called up to the squad as recently as March, before withdrawing due to the birth of his first child.

The likes of Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and Landon Donovan, who have all played in England during their careers, have made the initial squad and are expected to be on the plane after the final squad is announced on June 2.

Below is the full 30-man preliminary USA squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup:

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Nuremberg), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (Columbus Crew), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders)

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Joe Carona (Club Tijuana), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Maurice Edu (Philadelphia Union), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Aron Johansson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)
