Marvin Sordell scored the first hat-trick of his professional career, as Charlton Athletic won 3-2 at Sheffield Wednesday on Easter Monday.

Sordell, who has spent the season on loan at Charlton from Bolton, had netted just four goals in 31 appearances prior to the Addicks' game at Hillsborough, but completed a remarkable turnaround for Jose Riga's side that gives them real hope of retaining their Championship status for another season.

Wednesday were two goals up with just eight minutes played, but were pegged back when Sordell brought the visitors back into the game in the 10th minute. The former England under-21 international then scored an equaliser, two minutes before the break, before going on to complete his hat-trick and seal the victory with 63 minutes on the clock.

Elsewhere, Keith Andrews played the full 90 minutes as Brighton & Hove Albion kept their dreams of a play-off place alive with a 1-1 draw against Blackpool at the AMEX Stadium.

In League One, Tom Eaves was introduced as a half-time substitute in Shrewsbury Town's 5-2 defeat at Preston North End, while Craig Davies was an unused substitute for the Lilywhites at Deepdale.

Josh Vela and Sanmi Odelusi are also out on loan, at Notts County and MK Dons, respectively, but both failed to make their matchday squads.
