Joe Mason has returned to Cardiff City, after his 93-day loan deal at Bolton came to an end on Saturday.

Mason joined Wanderers in November and scored one goal during an eight-game spell at the Reebok Stadium. After returning to the Cardiff City Stadium, he played just one game for the Bluebirds - against Bolton in the third round of the FA Cup - before rejoining the Trotters in February.

His second stint with the club was much more fruitful than his first, having scored five times in eight games. In total, the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international scored six times in 16 appearances for Dougie Freedman's side.

During his second spell at Bolton, the 22-year-old forged a prolific partnership with fellow loanee Lukas Jutkiewicz. Between them, they have scored 12 times in Wanderers colours and helped the club steer clear of relegation trouble and into a comfortable mid-table position in the Championship.

Freedman is likely to renew his interest in Mason in the summer, but whether or not a deal will be feasible almost certainly hinges on which division Cardiff will be playing their football next season and whether a fresh loan deal becomes a possibility.
