Ahead of Bolton's game against Barnsley on Saturday, we take a look back at a classic game between the two sides.

In last week's #ThrowbackThursday, we went back to April 2000 and a 3-0 Wanderers victory over Huddersfield Town in Division One. This week, we go back to December 26, 1997, and Bolton's 1-1 draw with Barnsley in the Premiership.

Bolton went into the game one place and one point above the bottom three, whose places were occupied by Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and the bottom club, Barnsley.

Colin Todd's side had won just two of their previous nine games and played host to a side who won promotion with them in the infamous 1996/97 campaign.

Wanderers fell behind in the 20th minute at the Reebok Stadium, as Macedonian forward Gjorgi Hristov found the back of Gavin Ward's net. But the hosts were level seven minutes before the break, as Gudni Bergsson took aim at goal and beat opposing goalkeeper David Watson from all of 40 yards.

Neil Redfearn, who made his professional debut during a spell at Bolton, was in the Tykes lineup that day.

Both sides would end the season by suffering relegation back to Division One, after a solitary season in the top-flight. Barnsley's total of 35 points saw them finish in 19th, above Crystal Palace, while Wanderers went down on goal difference on the final day of the campaign - Everton survived.
