Bolton have handed a trial to out-of-favour Southampton midfielder Andy Robinson, who is a former youth team captain at St Mary's.

Robinson has been with the Saints since the age of eight and is reported to be on the verge of leaving the club.

The 21-year-old has played just nine minutes of senior football for Mauricio Pochettino's side - in a League Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday in September 2012 - but featured for Wanderers' development squad in Monday's penalty shootout victory over Manchester United.

The Bolton News understand Robinson will not be offered a new contract at Southampton and Wanderers are currently assessing his ability, before deciding whether to press ahead with a move - which could hinge on an agreement over compensation.
