Notts County are reported to be heading the queue for the loan signing of highly-rated Bolton midfielder Josh Vela.

Vela has played just two games for Wanderers this season, after being struck down by a persistant knee injury. Having fully recovered from the problem, he is being touted for a short loan spell away from the Reebok Stadium to prepare him for life in the first-team next season.

Dougie Freedman admits the 20-year-old is on the verge of making the step into the senior squad and says any loan move away from the club would be on his terms - but only on a short-term basis.

"He's playing very, very well," Freedman told The Bolton News. "It is a very fine line between sending him out to get games and keeping him here because he is extremely close to making that breakthrough.

"If we came to the decision, with Josh, that going out on loan was the thing to do, then it would be in the short term only."

Vela has been at Bolton since the age of seven and has made 12 senior appearances for the club.
