Bolton have been boosted by the news that defensive duo Marc Tierney and Joe Riley could return before the end of the season.

Tierney hasn't featured for Wanderers since breaking his leg in a 1-1 draw with Yeovil Town last September, while Riley hasn't played a competitive game since breaking his foot in an FA Cup third round tie with Sunderland in January 2013 - although his absence has been down to a knee ligament injury he sustained in pre-season.

Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman is hopeful that Tierney could return to first-team action by the end of March, whilst also admitting Riley could be back in contention before the campaign comes to a close on May 3.

"Marc is out there running with us and he might be back playing by the end of the month," Freedman told The Bolton News.

"Joe seems to be running at the same sort of speed and intensity - so he's definitely got a chance of playing before the end of the season as well.

"It has been a massive shame for the lad but I'm starting to see in Joe a young man who's dedicated to his profession.

"I'm making sure his rehabilitation is spot on and hopefully that means when he gets back this time, we can really see what he has got to offer."
