Stuart Holden will play for the first time since July on Monday night, when Bolton's development squad face Everton at the Reebok Stadium.

Holden hasn't featured since suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament playing for his country in last summer's Gold Cup final and has played just five first-team games for Wanderers since March 2011, due to a series of career-threatening knee problems.

The 28-year-old remains some distance away from a first-team return, but will embark upon the next stage of his recovery by appearing for Jamie Fullarton's second string.

Bolton boss Dougie Freedman says the United States international is looking fit in training and hopes to use Monday's game to see where the player stands on his long road to recovery.

"Stuart will be involved on Monday," Freedman told the club's official website. "In training I'm seeing a player who is ready to go, but right now he needs game time.

"There's a slight change in his running movements and he's looking fit and well and it is great to have him back amongst the group.

"It'll be a good game for him with it being at the Reebok, on a good playing surface."

The game begins at 7pm, with season ticket holders eligible for free entry into the stadium. Supporters without a season ticket will be charged £3 (adults) and £1 (concessions).
